Re: Regional policing

I write to comment on your editorial on disorganized policing fighting organized crime.
I agree with your editorial that we need a regional police force.
The recent Taser incident at the airport shows a fundamental problem with our police forces today.
The recruits are young and green and seem incapable of talking people out of giving themselves up.
A policeman's main weapon should be his intellect not his gun or Taser.
If we had regional policing, the older cops with experience can work with the newer recruits and pass on some of their street smarts.

Regional policing only works for the big cities.
Smaller municipalities will suffer because their police units will be dragged away to fight big city crime.
The smaller municipalities will also carry an unfair burden of taxes to support a regional police force.
Our cops do a good job and they will do a better job if they understand the communities they serve.

Re: Beauty Queen

Congratulations to Ms Trisko of Vancouver for winning the Ms Earth beauty pageant in Manila. She makes the Filipino community in Canada proud. Ms Trsiko's academic achievements are tremendous and she is a role model for all young women in Canada.

I cannot understand why your paper continues to run stories on beauty pageants. These stories denigrate women. Stop publishing these stories as most women do not like beauty contests.
These kind of stories make me mad. They portray women as objects and nothing more.

Re: Extradition

Your article on Pacificador, the alleged political assassin wanted in the Philippines, is a classic example of why Canada has become a safe haven for people running away from their homelands.
Canada needs to send these people home quickly to face justice.
Pacificador has used and absued the system in Canada to stay away from facing trial in the Philippines.
If we have a treaty to send fugitives back to the Philippines, why is the treaty not being respected?
Judges don't make the law. Elected politicians do.
The courts should not provide shelter to this man and Ottawa should send him home as an example to others.
