| Vancouver Fashion Week 2005 | “The opportunities available to designers, media and sponsors are endless!“ says founder and producer, Jamal Abdourahman. “Exhibitors will directly interact with consumers, developing networks with key industry people.“
According to coordinator Niti Maini, “Our VFW goal is to promote diversity, bringing together designers, models and buyers to help create a vibrant, thriving industry for everyone involved.“ The FX Fashion Exchange Market Week and the Vancouver Film Festival will also be held during the event providing an even larger clientele to the participants.
As a major highlight this year, the VFW will introduce the International Designer of the Year awards.
Established Hollywood designer Anand Jon will receive the International Breakthrough Designer of the Year while New York-based designer Sanjana Jon will be awarded International Rising Star of the Year.
The VFW, whose sponsors this year include Versace and The Bay as well as well as a new SanFrancisco based fashion magazine Nirvana Woman, has altogether showcased almost 450 designers in the last 5 years, “Designers who have benefited in the past include Joyce Ma and Chloe Angus, whose collections are already being stocked at downtown locations and have caught the eye of LVMH, Saks Fifth Ave. and Harry Rosen,” recounts Niti.
One of the events, Cultural Reflections in Design will also showcase Aboriginal Designers Pam Baker, D‘Arcy Moses, Angela DeMontigny and Pat Piche.
The showcase will have a theatrical theme bringing forth the rich culture and history of the Aboriginal people.
Fashion knows no frontiers these days. And judging by the line up of events, designers and guests that the Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) has weaved together this year, it certainly lives up to the phenomenon. |
